I went to Anime Fest in NYC yesterday and the above pictures are just a sampling of those I saw cosplaying. The Fest was fun (although the commute into the city was not) but not at all geared toward professionals.
One unique and surprising feature was the manga library sponsored by AnimeNext. There was a separate room away from the exhibit hall where you could select a manga in exchange for your badge. I spent a half hour reading Death Note volume 1.
There were several vendors but the discounts were minimal so I went home empty handed. The best vendors were those selling artbooks and other imports from Japan. I did pick up some cards, the most interesting being Squishables! They are so nice to HUG that I will definitely get one soon.

Over 250 people. Anime celebrity Vic Mignogna, voice of Edward Elric (Full Metal Alchemist), Dark (D.N. Angel), and Ikkaku (Bleach). Several Risembool Rangers in attendance. Lots and lots of screaming.
Pouring rain didn’t stop the fans from coming and many wore cosplay. Here are some of them (Sakura is my favorite)!

Suncoast Video of the Ocean County Mall was on hand to provide anime merchandise and the VoTech school provided yummy deserts.
When Vic got on stage, everyone went wild. He did a brief introduction and then took questions from the fans. Yes, he did a “short rant” in Ed’s voice

After the Q & A… EVERYONE lined up for a picture and/or autograph with Vic. He spent time with each fan (often getting glomped), signed anything they wanted (even their faces!) and answered questions (or just listened to adoring rants). This took about 3 hours (phew) and everyone left happy and glowing.
