Roof Beam Reader’s TBR Pile Challenge 2012

Published December 20, 2011 by Nicki

Roof Beam Reader is hosting a To-Be-Read Pile Challenge. The goal: To finally read 12 books from your “to be read” pile, within 12 months.

There are several books I’ve checked out from my public library with the intention of reading for pleasure, only to return it again to avoid late fees. Some books I’ve checked out several times without reading. Here are the twelve I will read in 2012:

  1. The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak (2006)
  2.  The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness (2008)
  3. A Nothern Light by Jennifer Donnelly (2003)
  4. The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle by Avi (1990)
  5. Hatchet by Gary Paulson (1987)
  6. Tender Morsels by Margo Lanagon (2008)
  7. The Crimsom Petal and the White by Michel Faber (2002)
  8. American Gods by Neil Gaiman (2001)
  9. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larrson (2008)
  10. The Help by Katheryn Sockett (2009)
  11. Dragon’s Keep by Janet Lee Carey (2007)
  12. The Magicians by Lev Grossman (2009)

Alternates:

  1. Penny from Heaven by Jennifer Holm (2006)
  2. The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley (2009)

As I finish each book, I will review it and then link to the review from this post. Looking forward to catching up on my reading!

  • Glad you’re joining us for the challenge!

The Magicians is great – although, different. It’s very much Realism meets Fantasy. Not for everybody, but I loved it (and it sequel – The Magician King).

I’ve got quite a few of these on my lists as well (like The Book Thief) but The Magicians is the only one I’ve read. I don’t have any of the others on my TBR Pile Challenge list for 2012, but I do look forward to your reviews!

    Good luck!

  • I have a feeling THE MAGICIANS is my kind of read.

I took a peek at your 2012 list and I’ve read GONE WITH THE WIND, THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO and THE GOLDEN COMPASS. You are in for some delightful reading it you get to all three. They are among the best books I’ve ever read and they have stayed with me through the years.

    • Fantastic! I definitely “plan” to read all 14 books on my list (the 12 I need + the 2 alternates) but quite a few of the books on my list turned out to be uber-huge chunksters… not sure I’ll make it through all of them. I’m starting 2012 with Gone With the Wind, though.. so that one is for sure.
